I . Loretta Lynn
(1935– )
a US singer of country music . Her many hits include Don’t Come Home A Drinkin’ (1966) and, with Conway Twitty, After the Fire Is Gone (1971). She wrote the story of her life, Coal Miner’s Daughter (1976) (the title of one of her songs), and it was made into a 1980 film with Sissy Spacek. Lynn was chosen for the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1988. Her younger sister, Crystal Gayle (1951– ), is also a country music singer, and so are her twin daughters Peggy and Patsy.
II . Vera Lynn
(1917– )
an English singer. She was known as the ‘Forces’ Sweetheart’ during World War II and was very popular for her songs We’ll Meet Again and White Cliffs of Dover . She was made a dame (2) in 1975.
