a US singer and comic actor. She is small and enthusiastic and makes rude jokes about sex. She is sometimes called the Divine Miss M, which was the title of her first album (1973). Her films have included Down and Out in Beverly Hills (1986) and The First Wives Club (1996). She won an Emmy in 1997 for her television programme Bette Midler: Diva Las Vegas .
