Meaning of NADER in English

(1934– )

a US lawyer who became famous for representing the rights of consumers (= people who buy goods or use services) and led many important campaigns against big companies. In his book Unsafe at Any Speed (1965) he attacked the car industry for producing dangerous cars, and this led to new safety laws for cars being passed. The assistants who helped him in his investigations became known as Nader’s Raiders. Ralph Nader was a Green Party candidate in the elections for President in 1996 and 2000 and an independent candidate in the 2004 election.
