a game based on basketball that is played mainly by women and is very popular with British schoolgirls. It is played by two teams who score points by throwing the ball through a net with an open bottom at the opponents’ end of the court. The rules are similar to those in basketball except that in netball the player holding the ball is not allowed to move.
