(1929– )
a US conductor, born in Germany, who also plays the piano and writes music. He has directed orchestras in London, Houston, Los Angeles and Pittsburgh, and has done a lot to make classical music more popular. He has also written film music, winning Oscars for his work on Gigi (1958), Porgy and Bess (1959), Irma La Douce (1963) and My Fair Lady (1964). Previn was formerly married to the actor Mia Farrow .
