a large party for young people, with dancing to loud, fast electronic music such as house or techno . Raves were popular in Britain in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and were often held illegally, in large buildings or outdoors, with the police trying to prevent them. They were especially associated with the use of the drug Ecstasy.
