REVENGE


Meaning of REVENGE in English

a ship commanded by Francis Drake and used in the battle against the Armada in 1588. It was later commanded by Richard Grenville (1542–91) and captured by the Spanish in 1591 after a fierce battle. Lord Tennyson’s poem The Revenge (1880) tells the story of the incident, in which Grenville and many of his crew died.
