Meaning of RUMPOLE in English

a character who appears in various books and television programmes by the English writer John Mortimer. Rumpole is a bad-tempered old barrister (= an English lawyer) who helps people with their legal cases, especially difficult ones. He is best known from the television series Rumpole of the Bailey (1978–92), in which the actor Leo McKern played Rumpole.
