a US tennis player, born in Yugoslavia. In 1991 she became the youngest woman ever to hold the position of Number 1 in international tennis. She has won the French Open three times (1990–2), the Australian Open four times (1991–3 and 1996) and the US Open twice (1991–2). Her career was interrupted for two years after she was attacked with a knife by a supporter of the German player Steffi Graf during a match in Hamburg, Germany, in 1993.
