a US actor whose sons Emilio Estevez (1962– ) and Charlie Sheen (1965– ) are also actors. Martin Sheen was born Ramon Estevez. In 1964 he appeared in the Broadway play The Subject of Roses and later made the 1968 film version. His other films include Badlands (1973), Apocalypse Now (1979) and The American President (1995). He won several awards for playing the part of the Democratic president in the television series The West Wing (1999– ) and is known for his liberal political views in real life. Emilio Estevez’s films include Stakeout (1987), Men at Work (1990), which he wrote and directed, and Mission: Impossible (1996). Charlie Sheen, born Carlos Estevez, has appeared in Platoon (1986), Wall Street (1987), Major League (1989), Hot Shots! (1991) and The Arrival (1996).
