a US entertainer who presents the television talk show The Jerry Springer Show , first broadcast in 1991 and now seen in over 30 countries. The show is known for its lively and sometimes violent debates. Springer was earlier involved in politics, and was made mayor of Cincinnati, Ohio , in 1977. A musical show based on the programme, Jerry Springer The Opera , with words by Stewart Lee and music by Richard Thomas opened in London in 2003.
