a US company that prepares students for examinations which they need to pass in order to enter American colleges or universities. These include the SAT and GRE . In 2003 there were more than 3 000 Kaplan Educational Centers in the US and many other countries, including Russia and China. Stanley Kaplan, a teacher from Brooklyn , began the first one in the 1930s. The centres are now owned by the Washington Post Company, which also publishes Kaplan books.
