Meaning of STIRLING in English

I . Stirling

a town in central Scotland. It has an important place in Scottish history. It has a very old castle where the kings and queens of Scotland used to live. Scottish forces defeated the English in two important battles, Stirling Bridge (1297) and Bannockburn , for control of the castle and the bridge across the Forth river. It is also the administrative centre of the Stirling council area , which covers a wider geographical area, including part of the Grampians .

II . James Stirling

(1926–92)

an English architect. He is well known for designing modern buildings with many straight lines and bright colours. Some people with traditional ideas about architecture do not approve of his work. He has designed buildings for the universities of Oxford , Cambridge and Leicester , and his best-known buildings include a new part of Tate Britain , the Clore Gallery, and the art gallery in Stuttgart, Germany. He was made a knight in 1992.
