a US conductor who did a lot to make classical music more popular in America. He was born in London, England, and was known for his dramatic style. He directed the Philadelphia Orchestra (1912–36) and they played the music for the Walt Disney film Fantasia . Stokowski established the American Symphony Orchestra in 1962.
