In the 1960s the company went through a period of financial difficulty and closed for a time. The original Triumph company began making cars in 1923. It became part of the Standard Motor Company after World War II and then part of British Leyland in 1968. Its most successful models were the TR series of sports cars and the small, relatively cheap, Triumph Herald. These cars are no longer produced.
