Meaning of UGANDA in English

a country in eastern central Africa. Its capital city is Kampala and its official language is English. The economy is based mainly on farming, and its main exports are cotton and coffee. From 1894 to 1962 Uganda was a British protectorate (= a country controlled and protected by Britain), and it then became an independent member of the Commonwealth . In the 1970s the country suffered under the violent rule of Idi Amin. One of his acts was to force Ugandan Asians to leave the country, and many of them settled in Britain.
