Meaning of WALSINGHAM in English

( c. 1532–90)

an English politician. He was a close adviser to Queen Elizabeth I and was made a knight in 1577. By creating an organization of spies he helped to reveal the Babington Plot against the queen, and in 1587 was able to warn the government just before the arrival of the Spanish Armada .
