Meaning of WHISTLER in English

(1834–1903)

a US artist who was educated in France and lived mostly in London, England, after 1859. His best-known painting is usually called Whistler’s Mother . In a famous legal case he took John Ruskin to court for publicly criticizing his painting Nocturne in Black and Gold: The Falling Rocket . Whistler won the case but was awarded only a quarter of one penny.
