the only novel (1847) by Emily Brontë . The story is set on the Yorkshire Moors and is about the intense relationship between Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff , which leads to many problems and sad events. Laurence Olivier played Heathcliff in the 1939 film version, directed by William Wyler . In 1978 it was the subject of a successful pop song by Kate Bush, and in the 1990s it was made into a musical show, with Cliff Richard as Heathcliff.
