n. 1 a structure of bars or wires, esp. for confining animals or birds. 2 any similar open framework, esp. an enclosed platform or lift in a mine or the compartment for passengers in a lift. 3 colloq. a camp for prisoners of war.

v.tr. place or keep in a cage. cage-bird a bird of the kind customarily kept in a cage.
