Meaning of CALLIRHOË in English

[Greek] The daughter of Oceanus and mother of Echidna. The daughter of Achelous. She married Alcmaeon. A girl from Calydon who scorned the love of a priest of Dionysus. The god then threatened to inflict all the women of Calydon with madness. An oracle ordered the priest to sacrifice Callirhoë, but in desperation the man killed himself. The girl threw herself in a well, which from that moment on carried her name.
