LANTARÓN

Meaning of LANTARÓN in English

[Folklore] In the mythology of Cantabria (northern Spain), he is the strong and handsome King of the Sea. Human in appearance, he can be identified because his toes are linked together by membranes and his skin is coloured as algae (blackish-green). Sometimes, at low tide, he goes near the shore and lays there, among the rocks, hidden and observant. His supernatural powers come from a beverage he makes with milk and fruit from a sacred tree. Lantarón is the father of the Sirens (let's note that the Sirens of Cantabria are not evil creatures; their songs are for entertaining only and they do not wish any harm to seamen).
