LIMBO

Meaning of LIMBO in English

[Other] In Roman-Catholic doctrine, limbo is situated between heaven and hell. It is the abode of the dead whose souls have been excluded from heaven through no fault of their own. There are two forms of limbo: the limbo of the fathers and the limbo of infants. In the first the souls of the just await their redemption by Christ. In the second the souls of unbaptized children and others free of personal sin are detained. They have no hope of entering heaven and are in a perpetual state of oblivion.
