[Islamic] The holy city of Islam, also called the 'mother of cities'. According to the Qur'an (3:96), the first house on earth was built there by Adam. Ibrahim and Isma'il built the Ka'ba there (the central sanctuary of Islam, towards which all believers must turn before beginning their prayers).
