PAVED PONDS

Meaning of PAVED PONDS in English

[Folklore] There are many fishing ponds in southern Bohemia, most of them founded in 15th and 16th century. During the construction of some of them, local villagers had to leave their former village if its location was suitable for a pond. There were later a couple of stories among fishermen about "paved ponds". According to these stories, there were places in some of the ponds where it was possible to feel pavement of a street or square underfeet while standing in the water. The fishermen were afraid of such places, because there were also stories about their colleagues, who died after falling into an old well or cellar hidden underwater.
