[Greek heroic] The virtuous singer in the court of Odysseus on Ithaca. He was compelled against his will to entertain the despicable suiters of Penelope. Because of his unwillingness to participate in the suitors' debauchery, Odysseus spared his life. He is one of the two bards depicted in the Odyssey.
