Meaning of PSAMATHE in English

[Greek] A Nereid, with Aeacus the mother of Phocus (Ovid XI, 398). The daughter of Crotopus, the king of Argos. With Apollo she was the mother of Linus. Because Psamathe feared her father's wrath, she gave her son to shepherds to raise him. When he reached maturity, he was torn apart by dogs. Psamathe was killed by her father, and an angered Apollo send a plague to Argos, which killed mainly the children.
