PETERSON DREDGE


Meaning of PETERSON DREDGE in English

A device used to collect sediment samples for the identification of bottom-dwelling animals in lakes and streams. The device has the appearance of a closed metal cylinder sectioned in half through the long axis. Weights can be attached to the outside of the cylinder sections to provide a deeper bite into the sediment. The Peterson dredge is particularly useful in the sampling of sediments that have a high content of sand and gravel. Also referred to as the Peterson Grab.
