IN-BAND SIGNALLING

Meaning of IN-BAND SIGNALLING in English

A format for digital signalling where the 8 bits per channel of signalling information is transmitted within the 64 kilobit frame along with the data being transmitted. This creates an effective bandwidth available to transmit your data of 56 kilobits. Switched 56, Leased 56, Frame Relay, and older ISDN services (like those currently being upgraded in California) are examples of In-band signalling. The alternative is Out-of-Band, also known as Clear-Channel, signalling.
