(1962–) a British ↑ comedian and writer, known for talking very fast and for being one of the inventors of ALTERNATIVE COMEDY in the 1980s, a style of comedy that avoids ↑ sexist and ↑ racist jokes, and is very political. He has also written ↑ novel s , plays, and humorous television programmes including Blackadder . His novels include Gridlock (1991), Popcorn (1996), and Inconceivable (1999). He is now best known for writing popular ↑ musical s based around old POP SONG s such as We Will Rock You and Tonight's The Night .
