Gish, Lil ‧ li ‧ an /ɡɪʃ, ˈlɪliən/ BrE AmE
(1893–1993) a US film and theatre actress, most famous for appearing in SILENT FILM s (=films made with no sound) . Her films include Birth of a Nation (1915), Broken Blossoms (1918), and much later, The Whales of August (1987).
