Morse, Inspector /mɔːs $ mɔːrs/ BrE AmE

a character, played by the actor John Thaw, in a British television programme based on books written by Colin Dexter. Morse was a police officer in Oxford, who rarely smiled and sometimes had a rather unfriendly manner. He was known for being very clever at catching criminals and for liking beer and ↑ classical music. The programme was broadcast from 1987 until 2000.
