1. the (principal) words used in a language or a particular book or branch of science etc. or by a particular author (scientific vocabulary; the vocabulary of Shakespeare).

2 a list of these, arranged alphabetically with definitions or translations.

3 the range of words known to an individual (his vocabulary is limited).

4 a set of artistic or stylistic forms or techniques, esp. a range of set movements in ballet etc.
