KIZILBAS

n. (literally means: "redhead") member of the 7 Turkmen tribes who wore red caps to represent their support for the founders of the Safavid dynasty (1501-1736) in Iran (this name was given to them by Sunnite Turks and was applied later to the followers of a shi'ite sect in east Asia Minor)
