n. person or thing that stabilizes; relatively large shock absorber for cars; (Aviation) airfoil that stabilizes an airplane; (Nautical) mechanical device that controls and reduces the the rolling of a ship in stormy and rought waters; (Chemistry) chemical that is added to a another substance to maintain it in a stable chemical or physical condition; ingredient (gelatin for example) used to prevent certain desserts from breaking down (also stabilizer)
