Iranian religious leader, founder of the Bah 0101; 012B; faith.

A Sh 012B; 02BD; ite Muslim who allied himself with the B 0101; b , he joined his half brother M 012B; rz 0101; Ya 1E25; y 0101; (known as 1E62; ob 1E25; -e Azal) in leading the B 0101; b 012B; movement after the B 0101; b's execution. Sunnite Muslims exiled him to Baghdad, Kurdistan, and finally Constantinople, where in 1867 he declared himself the imam-mahdi foretold by the B 0101; b and sent by God. This pronouncement split B 0101; bism into two factions, with a small group (the Azal 012B; ) adhering to its original beliefs and a larger group following him into what became the Bah 0101; 02BE; 012B; faith. The Ottoman government banished him to Acre where, as Bah 0101; 02BE; Ull 0101; h, he developed Bah 0101; 02BE; 012B; into a teaching that advocated the unity of all religions and universal human brotherhood.
