Ancient sanctuary, south of Miletus in modern Turkey.
Its temple, the seat of an oracle of Apollo, was plundered by the Persians 0441; 494 BC and resanctified after Alexander the Great conquered Miletus in 334 BC. About 300 BC the Milesians began to build a new temple, but it was never completed; the well-preserved remains were excavated in the early 20th century.
