n.
Any of a variety of minerals found in sedimentary deposits of soluble salts that result from the evaporation of water.
Typically, evaporite deposits occur in closed marine basins where evaporation exceeds inflow. The most important such minerals include anhydrite, halite, calcite, gypsum, polyhalite, and potassium and magnesium salts such as sylvite, carnallite, kainite, and kieserite.
