His relaxed manner and affable banter as a radio host won him such a wide following that he had two daily shows and a weekly show on CBS in the 1940s. His variety show, which transferred to television as Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts and later The Arthur Godfrey Show (1948–60), launched the careers of numerous popular entertainers.
