It lies on Tokyo Bay, between Tokyo and Yokohama . Almost completely destroyed in World War II, it has since been rebuilt. It is a major industrial centre for machinery and chemicals manufacturing and has large shipbuilding facilities. It is the site of a 12th-century Buddhist temple.
