KENDO


Meaning of KENDO in English

Japanese sport of fencing with bamboo swords.

Derived from the fighting methods of the ancient samurai , it was introduced in the 18th century. Contestants wear traditional protective garments, and the sword ( shinai ) is held with both hands. Points are awarded for blows delivered to various parts of the upper body. The first combatant to score two points wins the match.
