Grand vizier (1661–76) under the Ottoman sultan Mehmed IV. He started his career as a scholar but entered the civil service when his father became grand vizier.
Having made the army more efficient, he campaigned successfully against Austria (1663), the Venetian republic in Crete (1669), and Poland (1672–76). He died during his last campaign.
