Town (pop., 1991:15,853), capital of Dominica , an island nation of the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean Sea.
Roseau lies on the island's southwestern coast, at the mouth of the Roseau River. Its port exports limes, tropical vegetables, and spices. There are botanical gardens, nearby waterfalls, and thermal springs. The town was burned by the French in 1805 and suffered nearly total destruction by a hurricane in 1979.
