city, Orange county, California, U.S. It lies on the plain of the Santa Ana River, 25 miles (40 km) southeast of Los Angeles. It was founded by German immigrants in 1857 as a cooperative agricultural community, and its name corresponds to home on the Ana. After 1950 the community's citrus groves and vineyards had all but disappeared with the Los AngelesOrange County urban-industrial expansion. Disneyland amusement park (1955), Anaheim Stadium (1966; home of the California Angels baseball team), and Anaheim Convention Center all have become major economic assets of the city. Anaheim forms a metropolitan complex with the cities of Santa Ana and Irvine. Inc. 1915. Pop. (1992 est.) city, 276,314; Orange County MSA, 2,500,181.
