ANANTAPUR

town, southwestern Andhra Pradesh state, south-central India. The town is located 120 miles (190 km) north of Bangalore (Karnataka state) on the HyderabadBangalore main road. The town's name is derived from Ananda, the name of the wife of a dewan (official) of the medieval kingdom of Vijayanagar who built the town.
