BAERUM

Meaning of BAERUM in English

herredskommune (rural commune), in Akershus fylke (county), southeastern Norway. It is situated at the head of Oslo Fjord and adjoins the national capital of Oslo on the west. Although it is officially classified as rural, Brum is actually an agglomeration of populated places that, when taken as a unit, constitute the largest suburban herredskommune of Oslo. It has a broad frontage on Oslo Fjord and also extends inland for several miles. Important settlements within Brum are Lysaker, a small coastal port with paper- and wood-products factories, and Sandvika, a commercial centre. There are fine beaches and residential sections, as well as many summer villas of Oslo residents. Fornebu, Oslo's international airport, is also in Brum. Pop. (1995 est.) mun., 95,612.
