French-Canadian poet and physician who is regarded as the leading poet of Le Terroir (French: "The Soil") school of Quebec regionalist poetry. A traditionalist noted for his perfection of poetic form, Beauchemin drew on the religion and culture of Quebec and on a love of the Canadian landscape for his material. He published only two collections of poems, Les Floraisons matutinales (1897; "The Morning Efflorescence") and Patrie intime (1928; "Intimate Birthplace").
