town, southwestern Iran, in the foothills of the Zagros Mountains near the Marun River. The largely mountainous county extends to Mt. Dinar and has tribal populations. The town prospers through development of the neighbouring oil fields. It lies on an ancient trade route and connects by road with Ahvaz and Kazerun. Nearby ruins include the Sasanian city of Arajan and a bridge with a single arch. Pop. (1976) town, 79,434; county, 114,372.
