BOROVICHI

also spelled Borovici, administrative centre, Borovichi rayon (sector), Novgorod oblast (province), northwestern Russia, on the Msta River. A town since 1770, it has a varied economy. As well as an old handicraft industry, especially hosiery, there are ceramics, paper, and wood-using industries. Borovichi has medical and teacher-training schools. Pop. (1983 est.) 62,000.
