BORUJERD

also spelled Burujird, or Barujird, chief town, Borujerd shahrestan (county), Lorestan ostan (province), western Iran. Borujerd is situated 5,500 feet (1,700 m) above sea level, below high mountains, in a wide, fertile valley. It is a flourishing regional centre on the main highway from the Persian Gulf and Khuzestan to Tehran; it is connected by roads with Hamadan and Kermanshahan ostans. The district has many traces of ancient settlement in the form of tappehs, or mounds. Pop. (1986) 183,879.
